The first castle's mention dates back to 1501. Recently it has become a private residence and over the centuries has suffered many changes. Until the end of the XV century, Airola's site is mentioned as a villa. Despite the repeated renovations, we can see traces of its original structure with its guard tower, the noble halls, service environments and S. Giovanni's church. Some researches think that under the castle there are some tunnels useful in case of an attack, as an escape route.
